It’s official! The Anchorage Assembly approved a name – Chanshtnu Muldoon Park – for our community park July 25, 2017. Chanshtnu (pronounced CHANSH-nu), meaning “grass creek,” is the Dena’ina word for Chester Creek, which winds through the park at 1301 Muldoon Road.
The U.S. Department of the Interior and the National Park Service announced a grant of $750,000 to the city toward development of Phase 2 of the park in mid-July.
Ribbon cutting for Phase 1 – Muldoon Town Square – with an all-inclusive, destination playground, and future home of Muldoon Farmers Market, is planned for 4 p.m. September 16 at the annual Spirit of Muldoon picnic.
Muldoon Farmers Market features Alaska-grown or caught fresh farm produce and seafood, locally baked or cooked food, high quality crafts from local artisans and live music. Open 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. every Saturday, June 24 – September 23, 2017, at Begich Middle School, 7440 Creekside Center Drive.
6 p.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2017. Formal presentation 6:15 p.m. Wayland Baptist University, 7801 East 32nd Avenue (access via Old Muldoon Road off 36th Avenue).
The Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) Project Management and Engineering Department (PM&E) is in the preliminary design phase to improve the roads and drainage in Pleasant Valley Subdivision (between 32nd & 36th Ave. from Muldoon Road to Shamrock St.)
Improvements will include street reconstruction with curb and gutter, pedestrian facilities, piped storm drain and street lighting.
You are invited, and encouraged, to participate in a community meeting to review and comment on proposed alternatives, and see how it may affect your property.
