A new, accessible playground in Chugach Foothills Park opened officially with a ribbon cutting and cookies, coffee and hot chocolate from Anchorage Park Foundation on Saturday, November 17, at 7975 Pioneer Drive.
Volunteers thinned vegetation, uprooted invasive bird cherry saplings and completed other maintenance tasks Saturday, August 18th, prior to installation of a new, accessible playground in Chugach Foothills Park. Tools and lunch were provided for volunteers. Ribbon cutting will be this fall.
Crews will be begin to remove the old equipment starting tomorrow, July 11th. The playground will be closed until the replacement project is completed. – per Maeve Nevins-Lavtar, ASLA, Senior Park Planner.
This makeover project will begin in a few phases:
· Phase 1: Remove and replace playground equipment and fall surfacing material (starting July 11th through end of August* – weather dependent)
· Phase 2: Drainage repairs – this phase will include drainage repairs to the parking lot and in other areas that have been affected by poor drainage (tentatively starting in August through fall 2018)
· Phase 3: Vegetation thinning – we will focus on this task during the Volunteer Fix-It Event on Saturday, August 18th, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Maeve will start posting updates to the project website this week.
